House Resolution 109

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SOUTH JONES HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND AND DIRECTOR BRIAN JOYCE FOR EARNING FIRST PLACE IN CLASS 1A AT THE 2021 BANDS OF AMERICA REGIONAL COMPETITION IN JACKSONVILLE, ALABAMA.

     WHEREAS, in October 2021, the members of the South Jones High School Marching Band won first place in Class 1A at the Bands of America Regional Competition in Jacksonville, Alabama; and

     WHEREAS, during the competition, the band rose to the challenge, in their first time participating at the event, earning recognition for outstanding musical performance, visuals and general effect; and

     WHEREAS, the band performed an eight-minute, Latin themed show for the competition called "La Rosa Exotica," and proud members of the South Jones and Ellisville community showed up at the high school to congratulate the students upon their arrival home; and

     WHEREAS, the band has earned high accolades in recent years, winning the 2019 WGI Winds Scholastic Open Class International Championship, the 2019 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A State Marching Championship and the 2021 MHSAA Class 5A State Marching Championship; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend students who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the South Jones High School Marching Band and its Director, Brian Joyce, for earning first place in Class 1A at the 2021 Bands of America Regional Competition in Jacksonville, Alabama, and extend to the band members, directors, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Director Brian Joyce and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
