House Resolution 24

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LAKE HIGH SCHOOL LADY HORNETS FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM UPON WINNING THE 2021 MHSAA CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Lake High School Lady Hornets Fast-pitch Softball Team capped off its remarkable 30-7 season with a win over Mantachie High School to take home the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A Fast-pitch State Championship for the first time in school history; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Hornets finished 8-0 in Region 6 and were crowned Region Champions and beat Taylorsville High School to take the South State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Hornets were comprised of the following talented athletes: Adyson McKnight, Laneisha Palm, Chloe McDill, Laurel Breland, Tra'Shaylah Wilson, Alyssa Sockey, Brantlee McGee, Amaurei Jones, Kate Gladney, Kinsley Woods, Katlyn Lott, Myeisha Robinson, Taylor Clark, Abby Mills, Gracie McKee, Sadie Thompson, Taylor Duncan, Josie Gibbs, Abbie McGee, Lydasha Thames, Lyric Lay, Madison Breland, Baylea Bone and Alaina Alford; and Managers, Alyssa Taylor and Maddie Walton; and

WHEREAS, although there were several standout individual performances over the course of the season, the championship win was a culmination of hard work and team effort, with every player knowing their role and executing it perfectly; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Hornets have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Jake Loper, Assistant Coach Bethanie Hunter and Assistant Coach Zach Hanna who have broadened their knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi's student-athletes, especially those such as the Lady Hornets, whose excellence on and off the field brings honor to their school, their families and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Lake High School Lady Hornets Fast-pitch Softball Team upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A State Championship and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Jake Loper on behalf of the team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
