AN ACT TO CRIMINALIZE THE PUBLIC BURNING OF THE UNITED STATES FLAG; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  In addition to the penalties described in Section 97-7-39, a person who willfully burns the flag of the United States in public shall be fined Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) or imprisoned in the county jail for thirty (30) days, or both.

     (2)  This section does not prohibit any conduct consisting of the disposal of the flag of the United States when it has become worn or soiled.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2021.
