House Resolution 13

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED AND MERITORIOUS LAW ENFORCEMENT CAREER OF PORT GIBSON POLICE CHIEF CALVIN JACKSON UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

WHEREAS, Police Chief Calvin Jackson has retired after dedicating numerous years of illustrious service and extraordinary leadership to the wonderful people of Claiborne County and Port Gibson, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, as a Port Gibson native, Chief Jackson is a 1982 graduate of Port Gibson High School, and a 1987 graduate of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Academy; and

WHEREAS, Chief Jackson began his distinguished law enforcement career in 1987, as a K-9 Officer with the Claiborne County Sheriff Department, where he stayed until 1993, when he joined the Port Gibson Police Department; and

WHEREAS, with his outstanding leadership abilities, along with his superb training, Chief Jackson received the great honor of being promoted to Chief of Police on August 7, 2000, and he valiantly served in that esteemed position until his retirement on December 31, 2020; and

WHEREAS, devoted to his family, Chief Jackson is married to his wife, Jerri, and they have been blessed with one daughter, Callisa, and are the proud grandparents of their grandchild, Winter; and

WHEREAS, Chief Jackson has exemplified phenomenal professionalism, ability and integrity, earning the unbridled respect and admiration of his colleagues, fellow officers, and a grateful public; and

WHEREAS, as a great representation of a true public servant and diligent officer of the law, Chief Jackson faced dangerous situations each day that demanded he put his life on the line, and each time the call came, he fearlessly and bravely rushed into perilous predicaments and responded to a variety of emergency events; and

WHEREAS, as a dedicated leader who performed above and beyond the call of duty, Chief Jackson, with his indomitable grit, dexterous abilities and passionate determination, will be dearly missed by all of his colleagues and others who were fortunate to have the opportunity to work with him; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to pay tribute to great, heroic Mississippians, especially those such as Chief Calvin Jackson, who dedicated his life to protecting and serving citizens each day, and whose outstanding leadership, dauntless fortitude and unwavering duty to serve the people of Port Gibson and this great Magnolia State will always be remembered:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the distinguished and meritorious law enforcement career of Port Gibson Police Chief Calvin Jackson upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend best wishes for success in his lighter days ahead.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Chief Calvin Jackson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
