House Concurrent Resolution 27

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE GALLANT SERVICE, LIFE AND LEGACY OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY PATROL LIEUTENANT TROY MORRIS AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Lieutenant Troy Morris, an elite member and servant leader of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, departed this earthly life, at the age of 58, on August 7, 2020, bringing great sorrow to his family, friends, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, as well as throughout the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, blessed with a selfless heart to protect and serve his fellow man, Lieutenant Morris was a 27-year veteran of the Mississippi Highway Patrol who set the example of a fine law enforcement officer for new troopers in the agency, while simultaneously garnering the respect and admiration of his superiors; and

     WHEREAS, Lieutenant Morris, a man of many talents who always provided for his loving and supportive family, was reared with a staunch work ethic as attested by his additional part-time employment with the United States Postal Service as a postal carrier for 16 years, which spoke to his invaluable commitment to public service on both the federal and state levels; and

     WHEREAS, aptly described as a good man, friend and valuable member of the Mississippi Highway Patrol who was loyal and effective, the professionalism and courtesy that Lieutenant Morris displayed both on and off the roads and highways of this great state truly served as a role model to all whom he encountered; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to honor the life of great Mississippians, especially those such as Lieutenant Morris, whose nearly 30 years of commitment to the safety, security and the preservation of peace on Mississippi's roads and highways will be treasured for generations to come: 

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the gallant service, life and legacy of Lieutenant Troy Morris and express deepest sympathy upon his passing to his family and many friends as well as to the law enforcement community.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Lieutenant Troy Morris and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
