House Concurrent Resolution 22

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING

MR. BARABBAS LEASY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS THROUGHOUT HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE IN EDUCATION.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Barabbas Leasy, of Tupelo, Mississippi, currently serves as an assistant principal at Shannon High School in Shannon, Mississippi, and he has dedicated over 20 years of his life to serving in the distinguished field of education; and

     WHEREAS, devoted to academic excellence, Mr. Leasy earned an associate's degree in military intelligence, bachelor's degrees in both English and Spanish, a master's degree in educational leadership, and an executive master's degree in public administration, and he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in educational administration; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Leasy began his career at Shannon High School in 2013, as an English teacher for both 11th and 12th grade students, and in his third year at the school, he transitioned to one of two assistant principal positions; and

     WHEREAS, throughout his time at Shannon High School,

Mr. Leasy has served in several capacities, such as a member of the school leadership team, English PLC chair, community engagement administrator, professional consultant administrator, liaison for Shannon's P16 Council, school-wide plan administrator, discipline administrator, federal program administrator, PBIS administrator and co-chair of the school's teacher support team; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Leasy further co-sponsored Shannon High School students' community service work at local retirement homes and elementary feeder schools; sponsored Shannon High School students' Big Reader literacy support for elementary students with local feeder schools; coordinated scholarships with the Shannon P16 Council for student club membership fees, graduation fees, and graduate scholarships for Shannon High School students; made arrangements for mentoring for male students at Shannon High School who requested supportive guidance; organized school beautification work for Shannon High School with the Shannon P16 Council; developed parent and community workshops for supporting student at-home learning with professional consultants; scheduled national guest speakers for Shannon High School students; and coordinated with Armed Services recruiters for Shannon High School graduating seniors who were interested in serving in the military; and

     WHEREAS, dedicated to serving his country, Mr. Leasy served in the Mississippi National Guard for over 20 years, and valiantly served two tours in Iraq; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Leasy is married to Mrs. Sara Leasy, and they have been blessed with three children and one grandchild; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as

Mr. Leasy, whose dedication to public service and to educational excellence brings honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend Mr. Barabbas Leasy for his outstanding contributions throughout his many years of service in education.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Barabbas Leasy and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
