AN ACT TO RESTORE THE RIGHT OF SUFFRAGE TO MR. WILLIAM BARBER
OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE
LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The right of suffrage is hereby fully and completely restored
to Mr. William Barber of Jackson County, Mississippi, who was disqualified as
an elector as a result of his conviction for the crime of Armed Robbery on September
11, 1980, in Jackson County, Mississippi, for which he was sentenced to serve eight
(8) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. He was discharged
from custody on December 1, 1987. On September 13, 2010, he was convicted for the
crime of Possession of a Precursor with Intent to Manufacture, for which he was
sentenced to serve four (4) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of
Corrections followed by six (6) years of Post Release Supervision.
He completed all terms and
conditions of his sentence and was discharged on September 14, 2016. The
Legislature is informed that he has since conducted himself as a law-abiding
and honorable citizen in a good and lawful manner.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and
after its passage.
