AMENDMENT NO 1 PROPOSED TO

 

Senate Bill No. 3063

 

BY: Representatives Johnson, Hines, Brown (70th), Scott

 

     AMEND by inserting the following new Section 2 after line 194 and renumbering the succeeding sections:

     "SECTION 2. Section 6, Chapter 104, Laws of 2020, is amended as follows:

Section 6.  The following sum, or so much of it as may be necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the Budget Contingency Fund not otherwise appropriated, to the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning for the purposes described in Section 7 of this act, for the period beginning upon July 1, 2020, and ending December 30, 2020  $ 6,218,000.00

     AMEND FURTHER by adding the following new paragraph (d) after line 220:

          "(c)  Providing funds to Alcorn State University, Jackson State University and Misssissippi Valley State University to reimburse those universities for their necessary expenditures incurred due to the Covid-19 public health emergency for which they have not received reimbursement from other funds provided by the CARES Act, in amounts of not more than the following for each university:

Alcorn State University........................... $ 8,715,629.19 

Jackson State University.......................... $ 8,970,751.00

Mississippi Valley State University................ $ 4,003,881.00

TOTAL.......................................... $ 21,590,261.19"

 

     AMEND FURTHER the title on line 10 by inserting the following after the semicolon: "TO AMEND SECTION 6, CHAPTER 104, LAWS OF 2020, TO INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF THE APPROPRIATION TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF STATE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING;"

 

     In compliance with Joint Rule 20A, the $21,590,261.10 increase in the appropriation to the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning from the Budget Contingency Fund in this amendment shall be funded by a reduction in the total amount that is to be paid into the Unemployment Compensation Fund under the provisions of other bills that are passed on or after October 1, 2020.
