Senate Resolution 15

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GULFPORT HIGH SCHOOL "LADY ADMIRALS" GIRLS SOCCER TEAM AND COACH CHRIS PRYOR FOR WINNING THEIR SECOND STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Gulfport High School "Lady Admirals" Girls Soccer Team won a State Championship for the second time, celebrating its MHSAA Class 6A victory over Clinton on February 8, 2020, in Ridgeland, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Admirals won 3-1. This was the program's second State Championship and its first since the 2008 squad. Gulfport took on Clinton in the 6A Finals, still pitching a postseason shutout across its first three games; and

WHEREAS, Gulfport scored two early goals on its way to a 3-1 victory over Clinton. Gulfport ended the season undefeated at 21-0-4 and only lost three seniors; and

WHEREAS, "The key was that Gulfport was being able to start fast. We were able to finish some early goals," Gulfport Coach Chris Pryor said. "Clinton had a lot of supporters here (Ridgeland High School). But in the end, our fitness and ability to move the ball played in our favor." Freshman Mary Frances Symmes scored the first goal 13 minutes into the game with a shot into the upper left corner of the goal from 20 yards out. Mallory Streetman made it 2-0 two and one-half minutes later, scoring into an open net on a rebound after Clinton Goalie Sarah Polk made a diving stop on a breakaway shot by Abigail Badurak. Kate Smith increased the Gulfport lead to 3-0 on a long-range blast with 14 minutes left; and

WHEREAS, the Gulfport High School Lady Admirals Girls Soccer Team Roster is: Mallory Streetman, Kate Smith, Abbie Sawyer, Jaden Hickman, Delaney Owen, Bailey Smith, Kayley Holloway, Kay Vincent, Kelsey Favre, Skylar Lambert, Moe Wert, Alyssa Moniz, Addie Eddins, Mackenzie McKinney, Iben Madsen, Lauren Carothers, Kate McCormick, Rebecca Nelms, Camryn Crosby, Jasmine Casy, Lily Crosby, Laylah Johnson, Natalie Lott, Mary Frances Symmes, Karlisle Madison, Elena Knoll, Anna Grace Deakle, Raiya Smith, Addie Wilson, Abigail Badurak and Zakiya Lowe; Coach Chris Pryor; Assistant Coaches: Kelsey Myrick, Emily Weems and Judy Riley; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Gulfport High School "Lady Admirals" Girls Soccer Team and Coach Chris Pryor for winning their second State Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Pryor for the team and Gulfport Principal Michael Lindsey, forwarded to the Gulfport School District, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
