A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NANIH WAIYA HIGH SCHOOL "WARRIORS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH JAMES COURTNEY FOR WINNING THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Class 1A defending champion Nanih Waiya High School "Warriors" Football Team and Head Coach James Courtney secured their second consecutive State Championship by defeating Lumberton High School 28-13 on December 6, 2019, at Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, both of these teams relied on physical defense and strong rushing attacks.  "We're extremely excited to be able to have another chance to play for a state championship in Hattiesburg," Nanih Waiya Head Coach James Courtney said.  "We're proud of our team and the composure they showed, the class they showed and being able to win an absolute war"; and

     WHEREAS, in the Championship Game Quarterback Donavan Turner led the team statistics in rushing (192), passing (68) and receiving (38), with 1352 passing yards and 1122 rushing yards for the season; and

     WHEREAS, the 2019 Nanih Waiya High School "Warriors" State Championship Football Team Roster is:  Dawson Eaves, Tylan Glass, Tanner Courtney, Donovan Turner, Austin Sanders, J.T. Stokes, Blake Young, Trevor Holdiness, Jake Vick, Bryce Woodruff, Scott Ferguson, Ked Moore, Dennis Carter, Mason Jones, Taylor Higginbotham, Devean Turner, Tyvick Cotton, Cal Adcock, Dee Welch, Shia Moore, Hagan Halfacre, Caleb Gregory, Ashton Warren, Prentiss Eaves, Shaw Adcock, Ethan Misso, Cody Warrren, Branson Baysinger, Braxton Stokes, Burton Rosamond, Maddox Robertson, Cade Higginbotham, Tristan Conner, Camden Hoening, Kris Eaves, and James Resh; and Head Coach James Courtney.  Assistant Coaches: Paul Courtney, Sy Hunter, Cody Parkes, Johnny Kight, Mark Beasley, Tyler Rogers, and Steve Blackwell.  Managers:  Walt McClendon, Korben Sanders, Kendon Sanders, Mitchell Turner, Jacob Ingram, and Garrett Boykin; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this repeat championship team which has brought honor to its school, its community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Nanih Waiya High School "Warriors" Football Team and Head Coach James Courtney for winning their second consecutive Class 1A State Championship and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future championships.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coach James Courtney for the team and Nanih Waiya High School Principal Belinda Swart, forwarded to Winston County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
