(As Adopted by House)

A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMEMORATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MRS. CARRIE LEE JONES MILLER AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.

WHEREAS, it is written in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the Heaven," and as such the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Mrs. Carrie Lee Jones Miller, to eternal rest, rendering great sorrow and loss to her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Miller's community lost a wonderful friend with her passing, and there is now a hush in our hearts as we come together to pay our respects to the memory of one who has been called to join that innumerable heavenly caravan; and

WHEREAS, born on November 25, 1937, in Flora, Mississippi, to Mrs. Alberta Crosby Jones and Mr. Calvin Jones, Mrs. Miller attended school at Wilson Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a life long member and served as a member of the missionary choir and senior choir; and

WHEREAS, true love struck when Mrs. Miller met Mr. Eugene Miller, and they were united in holy matrimony on February 5, 1955, and to this union, five children were born; and

WHEREAS, though she has traversed the river of life to reunite with those who answered God's summons to life eternal and now beckon her arrival to the celestial shores of Heaven's grandeur, the legacy of Mrs. Miller's indelible imprint upon our lives will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of her loved ones, including her three sons, Willie B. Miller, Eugene Miller, Jr., and Darryl Miller; daughters, Mary Miller and Vanessa C. Miller; sisters, Eva Wilson and Fannie Miggins; very special niece, Deborah Harper; dear cousin and best friend, Dorothy Brown; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Miller made a difference in the lives of many, and all who knew her will truly miss her, and her family and friends can find peace and comfort during this difficult time because it is written in 2 Corinthians 5:8, that to be "absent from the body is to be present with the Lord"; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the lives of outstanding individuals, especially those such as Mrs. Miller, who certainly inspired everyone she knew and whose life's light illuminated the path of hope for all she encountered along her earthly sojourn:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commemorate the life and legacy of Mrs. Carrie Lee Jones Miller, and express sincere and deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Miller and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
