House Resolution 62

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING LIEUTENANT JEFF SMITH OF THE SIMPSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT FOR RECEIVING THE "FOCUS ON THOSE WHO SERVE" AWARD FROM WLBT AND AMERICAN MEDICAL RESPONSE (AMR).

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Jeff Smith of the Simpson County Sheriff's Department recently received the "Focus on Those Who Serve" award from WLBT and American Medical Response (AMR) for his dedication and extraordinary service to the citizens of Simpson County and the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Smith began his career with the Simpson County Sheriff's Department in 1996, starting off as a jailer, then advancing quickly to road deputy and now to his current position as a Lieutenant with the department; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers' Training Academy, Jeff is certified as an instructor by the Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training and also uses his skills as a certified instructor for the Simpson County Law Enforcement Officers' Training Academy; and

WHEREAS, a former Simpson County Deputy of the Year, Jeff might have received some of his dedication to law enforcement from his grandfather, Curtis Kennedy, who worked with the Magee Police Department and then served as a Justice of the Peace and Constable in Simpson County; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his exemplary service with the Simpson County Sheriff's Department, Jeff Smith is an exceptional man and husband to his loving wife Donna, who has supported him in all of his endeavors; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor men like Lieutenant Jeff Smith who, as a Sheriff's Deputy, is willing to sacrifice his own personal safety and concerns to ensure the safety of the citizens of his community and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Lieutenant Jeff Smith for his distinguished service with the Simpson County Sheriff's Department and for receiving the "Focus on Those Who Serve" award from WLBT and American Medical Response (AMR).

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Lieutenant Jeff Smith and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
