House Resolution 60

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING RICKY SHARP UPON BEING NAMED THE 2019 MISSISSIPPI TRUCK DRIVER OF THE YEAR, EXPRESSING GRATITUDE FOR HIS HARD WORK AND COMMITMENT TO SAFETY AND EXTENDING OUR MOST SINCERE WISHES FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

WHEREAS, Mr. Ricky Sharp, a resident of Canton, Mississippi, and an employee of Walmart Transportation of Brookhaven, Mississippi, has been awarded the distinct honor of being named Mississippi's Truck Driver of the Year for 2019; and

WHEREAS, this honor reflects the hard work and dedication required from all transportation professionals and Mr. Sharp has demonstrated that he represents the very best of his profession; and

WHEREAS, the truck driving profession requires a significant emphasis on both productivity and safety, skill sets that Mr. Sharp has evidenced and shown a strong commitment to both in his 31 years of driving, having driven over 3,500,000 accident free miles in the span of his career; and

WHEREAS, in addition to Mr. Sharp's outstanding professional career, he further distinguishes himself by volunteering with all four veterans' homes in Mississippi and for 13 years with the Batson Children's Hospital, for which he created the Trucking for Kids Fundraiser event; and

WHEREAS, additionally, Mr. Sharp is active in the Walmart Heart for Disabled Kids Event as well as the Mississippi Central State Trooper Coalition Youth Camp; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sharp exemplifies the image of the true driving professional with his commitment to public safety, his commitment to his family and most importantly his faith in God along with a steadfast commitment to bettering his community and bettering the State of Mississippi as a whole; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize fine Mississippians, especially those such as Mr. Sharp, who represents both true professionalism and a commitment to bettering the motoring public's safety by leading his profession forward:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ricky Sharp upon being named the 2019 Mississippi Truck Driver of the Year, express gratitude for his hard work and commitment to safety and extend our most sincere wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Ricky Sharp and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
