(As Adopted by House and Senate)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI'S HIGH SCHOOLS' GRADUATING SENIOR CLASSES OF 2020 UPON THEIR ACADEMIC SUCCESSES AND EXPRESSING THE GREATEST HOPE FOR SUCCESS IN THEIR FUTURE COLLEGIATE, CAREER, ATHLETIC OR MILITARY ENDEAVORS.

WHEREAS, in May of each year, throughout the State of Mississippi, countless thousands of aspiring students anxiously teem with excitement to experience the time-honored tradition of their high school commencement ceremonies, as they take their last orderly march onto a field or into an auditorium, stadium or coliseum to the familiar tune of "Pomp and Circumstance," in eager anticipation of hearing their names called before a congratulatory crowd of supporters and well wishers, before ultimately turning their tassels in synchronized fashion and tossing their mortar boards towards the sky; and

WHEREAS, Mississippi's high schools' graduating senior classes of 2020, both public and private, have persevered academically to celebrate the triumphant feat of successfully completing the first iconic milestone on their educational journey; and

WHEREAS, despite the unforeseen implications of a global pandemic that has altered the course of the lives we once knew as socially normal, the Class of 2020 has demonstrated consistency in their intellectual inquiry, academic discipline, determination, utilization of teacher mentoring and resiliency to overcome the most unpredictable adversity throughout their high school careers; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend Mississippi's wealth of talent, in its greatest and most prized resource, the young scholars, who have excelled academically to charter the course to pinning the next chapters in their lives and chartering a new course of Mississippi and American history:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the State of Mississippi's high schools' graduating senior classes of 2020 upon their academic successes, and expressing the greatest hope for success in their future collegiate, career, athletic or military endeavors.
