AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT SECURITY FROM THE MISSISSIPPI WORKS FUND FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING THE MISSISSIPPI WORKS CAREER-TECH SCHOLARS PROGRAM ADMINISTERED BY THE MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2021.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1.  The following sum, or so much of it as may be necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the State Treasury to the credit of the Mississippi Works Fund not otherwise appropriated, to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security for the purpose of funding the Mississippi Works Career-Tech Scholars Program administered by the Mississippi Community College Board for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2020, and ending June 30, 2021................... $ 1,500,000.00.

     SECTION 2.  The money appropriated under Section 1 of this act shall be distributed to the Mississippi Community College Board, which shall disburse the funds to eligible community colleges to be used in accordance with applicable rules and procedures of the Mississippi Works Career-Tech Scholars Program.

     SECTION 3.  It is the intention of the Legislature to fund the Mississippi Works Career-Tech Scholars Program in subsequent fiscal years by an amount of not less than One Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($1,500,000.00) each fiscal year from the Mississippi Works Fund.

     SECTION 4.  The money appropriated by this act shall be paid by the State Treasurer out of any money in the State Treasury to the credit of the Mississippi Works Fund created by Section 71-5-353, Mississippi Code of 1972, not otherwise appropriated, upon warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, officer or officers in the manner provided by law.

     SECTION 5.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2020.
