Senate Concurrent Resolution 624

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SIMPSON ACADEMY "COUGARS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACHES JAMES AND CAREY CRAIN FOR WINNING THE 2019 MAIS AAAA DIVISION II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, we join the students, parents, faculty and administration of Simpson Academy in Mendenhall, Mississippi, in congratulating the "Cougars" Boys Basketball Team and Coaches James and Carey Crain for winning the 2019 MAIS AAAA Division II State Championship; and

WHEREAS, with a record of 26-9 the Cougars won the District and State Championships; and

WHEREAS, the following team members made tournament honors: All-State Team: Bowen Kelly, Joe Berry, Hunter Cline and Thomas Pepper; and All-Star, Bowen Kelly; and

WHEREAS, the Simpson County "Cougars" Boys Basketball Team 2019 MAIS AAAA Division II State Championship Roster is: Joseph Berry, PG; Jaden Wedgeworth, G; Morgan Leonard, G; Jered Smith, G; Todd Larkin, G; Hunter Cline, G; Cole Groover, G; Drew Williams, F; Layton Brown, G; Bowen Kelly, F; Warner Watkins, F; Josh Flynt, C; Thomas Pepper, C; and David Pepper, F; James and Carey Crain, Coaches; Austin Lane, Scorekeeper; and Stats, Ramsey Jones and Jacob Johns; and

WHEREAS, the mission of Simpson County Academy is to be a dynamic, independent educational institution dedicated to Christian values, academic excellence and athletic achievement. They provide a secure learning environment, state-of-the-art facilities, and a caring professional staff. They instill in their students the values and skills necessary to successfully meet the challenges of the 21st Century; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Simpson County Academy "Cougars" Boys Basketball Team and Coaches James and Carey Crain for winning the 2019 MAIS AAAA Division II State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach James Crain, Assistant Coach Carey Crain, and Headmaster Billy W. Hankins, forwarded to the Simpson County Academy Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
