Senate Concurrent Resolution 567

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2018 SIMPSON ACADEMY "LADY COUGARS" SOFTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH ADAM EVANS FOR WINNING BACK-TO-BACK AAAA DIVISION II STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

     WHEREAS, the Simpson Academy "Lady Cougars" Softball Team ended the 2018 softball season with a record of 19-10, AAAA DII District 3 Champions and AAAA DII State Champions.  Simpson's softball team went back-to-back, winning the South State Championship at the Jimmy Clyde Sportsplex; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars defeated Washington School 6-0 on September 24, 2018, in the opening round to get the tournament started.  The Lady Cougars played Magnolia Heights School in the quarterfinals and won 9-7.  In the semifinals Simpson defeated East Rankin Academy 6-1; and

     WHEREAS, the Championship Game saw the Lady Cougars jump out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back, defeating Copiah Academy.  The Lady Cougars got the three outs needed in the top of the seventh inning to claim the State Championship 5-1.  Getting hits for Simpson were Abigail Carter with a single; Morgan Griffith a double and an RBI; Maddie Moody a single and 2 RBIs; Allison Richardson a single and two RBIs; and Ma'Nia Womack a single.  Pitching seven innings for Simpson was Bella Lucky.  The win improved Simpson's record to 19-10 on the season; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars' Championship Softball Team Roster is:  Sydney Kate Russell, Paige Vanderford, Marlee Dampeer, Abigail Carter, Hailey Roberts, Avery Crain, Allison Richardson, Gracie Giordano, Anna Claire Walker, Bella Luckey, Clara Grace Jenson, Maddie Moody, Chloe Peterson, Carson Smith, Leah Beth Luckey, Kristin Busby, Anna Rogers, Morgan Griffith, Olivia Hodum, Avery Vanderford, Anna Joy Blain, Emma Grace Wallace, Katie Beth Kennedy, Kinsley Welch, Natalie Styron and Ma'Nia Womack; Head Coach: Adam Evans; and Assistant Coaches:  Bart Carter, Layce Evans and Jeff Wedgeworth; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Simpson County Academy "Lady Cougars" Softball Team and Head Coach Adam Evans for winning a consecutive Softball State Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Adam Evans for the team, forwarded to Billy W. Hankins, Headmaster of Simpson Academy, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
