A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. ALOYSIUS "LADY FLASHES" GIRLS SOCCER TEAM AND COACH JESSICA TATE FOR WINNING THEIR SECOND MAIS DIVISION III STATE SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP IN FOUR SEASONS.
WHEREAS, on Saturday, October 6, 2018, an overtime goal gave St. Aloysius "Lady Flashes" Girls Soccer Team its second State Title in four years; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Theriot's rebound shot in the 13th minute of overtime deflected off a Bayou Academy player and into the net for the game's only goal, as St. Aloysius won 1-0 in the 2018 MAIS Division III Girls State Soccer Championship Game; and
WHEREAS, the State Championship is St. Aloysius's second in four seasons since joining the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools. St. Aloysius also won the title in 2015 and reached the Division III Semifinals in 2017. The Lady Flashes finished 10-3-1 and seem poised to be a contender again next season; and
WHEREAS, Forwards Anna Katherine Beauchamp and Brantlee Richards, and Defender Lexi Varner are the only seniors on the roster. "This is my second Championship to win," said Beauchamp, who was a Freshman on the 2015 team. "This was an awesome experience to relive. I knew our team could do it, and we had the heart to do it"; and
WHEREAS, "We played our hearts out," St. Aloysius Coach Jessica Tate said. "We left everything on the field. I am so proud of them"; and
WHEREAS, the 2018 St. Aloysius "Lady Flashes" Girls Championship Soccer Team Roster is: Molly Jo Derivaux (midfield), Madi Mathews (defense), Grace Windham (defense), Lily Perniciaro (forward), Anna Katherine Beauchamp (forward), Anna Scott Geeter (midfield), Elizabeth Theriot (midfield), Samantha Graves (midfield), Madisyn Miller (midfield), Brantlee Richards (forward), Kennedy May (defense), Jaleigh Ehrgott (defense), Lexi Varner (defense), Madelyn Roesch (midfield), Cati Mathews (defense), Meg McDaniel (midfield), Cameron Mathis (keeper), Clair Jamison (defense), Cami Ghrigsby (midfield), and Addie Dickerson (forward); and Coach Jessica Tate; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this special group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the St. Aloysius "Lady
Flashes" Girls Soccer Team and Coach Jessica Tate for winning their second MAIS Division III Soccer Championship in four seasons, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Jessica Tate for the team, forwarded to St. Aloysius Principal Dr. Virgil Strickland and the Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
