House Resolution 85

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MRS. PATSY EZELL MILLS AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.

WHEREAS, it is written in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, on February 20, 2019, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Mrs. Patsy Ezell Mills, to eternal rest, rendering great sorrow and loss to her family, friends and community; and

WHEREAS, as the second oldest of twelve children born to Mr. Luther Miller and Mrs. Carrie Miller on February 18, 1919, in Benton County, Mississippi, Mrs. Mills attended Ashland School and worked for the Goldsmith Department Store for 15 years; and

WHEREAS, true love struck when Mrs. Mills met Mr. Boyd H. Mills, and they exchanged the vows of holy matrimony and were blessed with two children, Jack and Clara; and

WHEREAS, though she has traversed the river of life to reunite with those who answered God's summons to life eternal and now beckon her arrival to the celestial shores of Heaven's grandeur, the legacy of Mrs. Mills' indelible imprint upon our lives will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of her loved ones, including her daughter, Clara Willey; sister, Vereen Clark; brother, Bobby Joe Miller; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends; and

WHEREAS, we encourage Mrs. Mills' family to find solace from the overwhelming sadness created by the earthly departure of their beloved family member and be renewed in their faith that she fulfilled the purpose of her appointed time in adherence to the commandment of II Timothy 4:7, by having "fought a good fight, finishing her course and keeping the faith until the hour of her departure was at hand"; and

WHEREAS, as a woman of grace and integrity who was blessed to reach the remarkable age of 100, Mrs. Mills inspired everyone she encountered, and because it is written in II Corinthians 5:8, that to be "absent from the body is to be present with the Lord," her family and friends can find peace and comfort during this difficult time; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor and commend the lives of outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Mrs. Patsy Ezell Mills, whose dedication to her family brings honor to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby  mourn the loss and commemorate the life and legacy of Mrs. Patsy Ezell Mills and express deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Patsy Ezell Mills and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
