A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE REMARKABLE AND UNPARALLELED SERVICE THAT MRS. CAROLYN J. CONGER PROVIDED TO COVINGTON COUNTY AS EXTENSION AGENT AND CONGRATULATING HER UPON HER RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, after 20 years of dedication to Covington County, Mississippi, Mrs. Carolyn J. Conger retired in December 2018 from her position as extension agent and community leader extraordinaire after providing exemplary service to the citizens of her beloved community; and

     WHEREAS, a native of Clark County, Missouri, Mrs. Conger has been a farm girl all of her life, as she grew up in a rural farming community and became a 4-H member at a young age, participating in livestock, sewing and cooking projects; and

     WHEREAS, after she received her bachelor of science degree from Northeast Missouri State University, Mrs. Conger later received her master's degree from Mississippi State University and began her illustrious career with the Alcorn State Cooperative Service, where she spent three years before transitioning to extension agent in Wilkinson County, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, after spending five years in Wilkinson County, Mrs. Conger began her long, fulfilling and prosperous career with Covington County in 1998, where she used her collegiate training and on-the-job expertise to make her one of the best extension agents Covington County has ever employed; and

     WHEREAS, throughout her career, Mrs. Conger has dutifully served the roles of 4-H Agent, FCS Agent and County Director, and she brought both efficiency and effectiveness to each of these positions; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Conger's social responsibilities have kept her almost as busy as her professional ones, as she was involved in numerous organizations that worked to better the Covington County community, including the Covington County Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers, the Covington County Cattlemen's Association, the Covington County Forestry Association, the Covington County Chamber of Commerce, the Mississippi Family and Consumer Science Association, and numerous other local, district and state leadership roles; and

     WHEREAS, additionally, she volunteered for several prominent and selfless organizations, including the Red Cross and the Veterans Affairs, and she was instrumental in planning and coordinating the FFA/4-H Junior Livestock Shows; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Conger was married to the late Mr. Lyle Conger, and for 15 years, she and her husband, both active members of the National Rifle Association, participated in a Shooting Sports program and served as instructors; and

     WHEREAS, in her spare time, Mrs. Conger enjoys spending time with her daughter, Betsy Conger, and her granddaughter, Hailey Roberts; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor those fine Mississippians who have dedicated their careers to serving the public, especially those such as Mrs. Carolyn J. Conger, whose dedication to her career as an extension agent in Covington County not only bettered the citizens in her community but also brings great pride to her friends, family and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend the remarkable and unparalleled service that Mrs. Carolyn J. Conger provided to Covington County as extension agent, congratulate her upon her retirement, and extend sincere wishes for rest and relaxation in her lighter days ahead.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Carolyn J. Conger and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
