House Resolution 64

A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MR. HAZARD CAMPBELL AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

WHEREAS, it is written in II Corinthians 4:17-18, "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal," and as such, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Mr. Hazard Campbell, to rest eternally, as he has made life's final transition from earthly travailing to heavenly reward, rendering great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, the City of Jackson, Mississippi, lost a wonderful friend with the passing of Mr. Campbell, on Friday, February 15, 2019, and there is now a hush in our hearts as we come together to pay our respects to the memory of one who has been called to join that innumerable heavenly caravan; and

WHEREAS, from his humble beginnings, Mr. Campbell, being the true patriot his family groomed him to be, became a devoted officer and gentleman of the United States Armed Forces when enlisted into the elite fraternity of the United States Air Force, entrusted with upholding the banner of protecting the rights and freedoms afforded us in the iconic symbol of Lady Liberty from 1951 to 1955; and

WHEREAS, a man of many talents and keen areas of interest whose life was characterized by unwavering commitments to education, his profession, community and, above all, his family, "H.C.," as he was affectionately known, upon being discharged from his military service, endeavored upon his educational pursuits by matriculating toward the receipt of his baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate degrees, which served as the foundation of his storied career as an educator with the Jackson Public School System, as well as Jackson State University as a revered teacher, leader and mentor with an impeccable skill set in mathematics; and

WHEREAS, an individual of profound wisdom, dignity and integrity, Mr. Campbell's smile and handshake exemplified his courageous approach of warmth, love and compassion for his church, students, colleagues and community; and

WHEREAS, H.C.'s fate would lend itself to being built in accordance with the blueprint divinely designed for the pattern of his life by the Great Deity and grand architect of our lives' destiny, when his love, chivalry and affection pierced the heart of the beautiful maiden by the name of Inez, whom he would gift his last name when the duo became bone of one another's bone and flesh of one another's flesh after exchanging the nuptials of holy matrimony and building a lifetime of memories with the addition of three daughters, each of whom they shared the abundant blessings of love, honor and humility; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Campbell willingly assumed the patriarchal role of his family, seizing the reins as the unifying tie that bound his family together, as he sought to always be their provider, and was instrumental in their support and encouragement in times of need, as he sprinkled their lives with nuggets of infinite wisdom and a fervent agape love; and

WHEREAS, in his transfiguration from mortality to immortality, Mr. Campbell now adorns the spiritual raiment, and joins the host of the heavenly chorus in fulfillment of the commandment of God in Acts 9:15, "Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel"; and

WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life to experience the glorious splendor of life in paradise in the wondrous anticipation of beholding the majesty of the celestial shores of Heaven's grandeur, the legacy of Mr. Campbell's indelible imprint will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of his beloved survivors:  devoted wife, Inez Campbell; three daughters, Debra, Denise and Wanda; several grandchildren; sister, Annie H. Barnes Clincy; and a host of other relatives and dear friends; and

WHEREAS, we encourage the family to find solace from the overwhelming sadness created by the earthly departure of their beloved family member and be renewed in their faith that Mr. Campbell fulfilled the purpose of his appointed time in adherence to the commandment of II Timothy 4:7, by having "fought a good fight, finishing his course and keeping the faith until the hour of his departure was at hand"; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of a genuine and selfless individual such as Mr. Campbell, whose light illuminated the path of hope for all he encountered along this earthly sojourn:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commend the life and legacy of Mr. Hazard Campbell and express sincere sympathy and condolences to his family and friends upon his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the surviving family members of Mr. Hazard Campbell and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
