House Resolution 60

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE EAST WEBSTER HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING WOLVERINES AND DIRECTOR JESSE YATES FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, THEIR FIRST STATE TITLE.

     WHEREAS, on October 27, 2018, the East Webster High School Marching Wolverines earned first place and captured their first state title at the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A State Championship in Pearl, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to their first place finish, East Webster reigned supreme in color guard, percussion, general effect and visual performance and received a second place finish in music performance; and

     WHEREAS, to win this elite honor, the band performed its Viking-themed halftime show, "The Last Voyage," which featured talented soloists Samantha Turman and Joshua Yates; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to their most recent honor, the Marching Wolverines have also won first-place trophies for color guard and marching band in the Northeast Regional Marching Band Championship held at Northeast Mississippi Community College, finished first in their class at the Tomahawk Marching Championships held at Itawamba Community College and received all-superior ratings for drum major, color guard and percussion at the regional evaluation at Tupelo High School; and

     WHEREAS, throughout their season of competition, the East Webster High School Marching Wolverines have faced off with some of the state's most talented marching bands, but persevered to make their presence and talent known under the twinkling stadium lights; and

     WHEREAS, the key to this group's success has been the constant team atmosphere and year-round hard work as well as support from their administration and teachers, band staff, boosters, parents and the entire community; and

     WHEREAS, Director Jesse Yates has superbly instructed and inspired the Marching Wolverines and broadened their knowledge of the music while refining their marching techniques; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor high achievements such as those of the East Webster High School Marching Wolverines, who have brought honor to their school, their community, and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the East Webster High School Marching Wolverines and Director Jesse Yates for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A State Championship, their first state title, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors. 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Director Jesse Yates and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
