House Resolution 55

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DESOTO COUNTY NATIVE DANIEL ARATA FOR REPRESENTING THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AT THE 2018 SPECIAL OLYMPICS NATIONAL GAMES IN SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.

WHEREAS, Daniel Arata, a DeSoto County, Mississippi native, represented the majestic Magnolia State at the 2018 Special Olympics National Games in Seattle, Washington, a truly outstanding accomplishment for Daniel, and a proud moment for the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, among more than 4,000 athletes to participate in the national event, Daniel, along with his twin brother Dan, both members of Ole Miss Unified Champion flag football team, and Jesse Wims, a powerlifting competitor also from DeSoto County, qualified for nationals during the Special Olympics of Mississippi 2017 Summer Games; and

WHEREAS, Daniel is part of the first flag football team from Mississippi to be represented at the national games, which is doubly highlighted because he is able to share the amazing opportunity and moment of recognition with his brother Dan; and

WHEREAS, the Special Olympics emphasizes the Olympians faith, spirit and determination that bespeaks the true character and worth of all human beings, and with the support of family, area directors and many dedicated volunteers, Mississippi's Special Olympians are celebrated by the entire state who are their biggest fans, and regard them each as champions; and

WHEREAS, the transformative power of sports to instill confidence, improve health and inspire a sense of competition is at the core of the Special Olympics, and the joy of sports shifts focus to the athletes' talents and abilities, and celebrates them for all that they can do; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Daniel Arata, whose courage, perseverance and determination bring honor to his family, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Daniel Arata for representing the State of Mississippi at the 2018 Special Olympics National Games in Seattle, Washington, and extend best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Daniel Arata, Special Olympics of Mississippi and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
