A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION DECLARING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 2019 AS METASTATIC BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH.

     WHEREAS, breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer found in women in the United States, and 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime; and

     WHEREAS, approximately six percent of newly diagnosed breast cancer cases are diagnosed as metastatic breast cancer, and it is estimated that 30 percent of early stage breast cancer cases will become metastatic or recurrent advanced cases; and

     WHEREAS, educating the public regarding the information, support, treatments, and coping methods available can help those living with the disease, as well as friends and family members, through a very difficult time; and

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Legislature is dedicated to protecting the health of the residents of this state and supporting the fight against metastatic breast cancer; and

     WHEREAS, declaring the month of October 2019 as "Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Month" will bring attention to the information, support, coping methods and treatment strategies available to help those living with the disease, and their families, which enhances the health and wellbeing of the great residents of the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to bring awareness to health concerns that negatively affect the lives of our citizens, and to promote the dissemination of information to improve the lives of our citizens:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby declare the month of October 2019 as "Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Month" to promote education on the subject and enhance the wellbeing of the citizens of this state.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
