House Concurrent Resolution 84

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MS. LUCY ALLEN FOR 41 YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF ARCHIVES AND HISTORY UPON HER RETIREMENT.

WHEREAS, after 41 years of dedicated and zealous service to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, Ms. Lucy Allen is retiring from her position as Museum Division Director on June 30, 2019; and

WHEREAS, as an invaluable asset to the Magnolia State, Ms. Allen served as project director for the restoration and creation of the Eudora Welty House and Gardens, the full restoration and reopening of the Old Capitol and the designing, construction and opening of the Two Mississippi Museums; and

WHEREAS, throughout her distinguished career, Ms. Allen's exceptional performance garnered her much admiration and respect, which led to her being invited to the floor of the House of Representatives in February 2006, to witness the historic vote authorizing the full restoration of the Old Capitol after it was substantially damaged during Hurricane Katrina; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Allen's consistency in performance never waivered from the date of her initial hire until her decision to conclude her prestigious career, and her dedication to public service inspires all of those around her to strive for excellence each day; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Ms. Lucy Allen, whose legacy of hard work, professionalism and overall commitment to her state, has made an indelible mark on the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and all those who have been privileged to know and work with her:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend Ms. Lucy Allen for 41 years of outstanding service to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Lucy Allen and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
