A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SUNFLOWER COUNTY EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONSE ASSOCIATION UPON THE MOMENTOUS OCCASION OF ITS TWENTIETH YEAR OF SERVICE.

     WHEREAS, twenty years ago on November 1, 1999, the Sunflower County Emergency Medical Response program was organized and implemented, and since that time, volunteer emergency medical responders have touched thousands of lives, and received recognition for their selfless service and commitment to excellence in providing prehospital emergency medical care; and

     WHEREAS, the Sunflower County Emergency Medical Response Association began with a small group of volunteers who organized Rescue Company 2, based in Inverness, Mississippi, and has since grown to over two dozen volunteers providing prehospital medical and trauma care to the ill and injured of Sunflower County, hazardous materials operational response, and specialized medical support to high—risk law enforcement missions; and

     WHEREAS, the volunteers of the Sunflower County Emergency Medical Response Association provide their services, free of charge and at little cost to the citizens of Sunflower County, in the Indianola, Inverness, Moorhead, Sunflower, Ruleville, Drew, and Linn-Steiner—Roundaway areas of the county; and

     WHEREAS, the organizational structure and the practices of the Sunflower County Emergency Medical Response Association have attracted acclaim and have been used as a foundational basis for the establishment of similar programs in other counties in Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, the volunteers of the Sunflower County Emergency Medical Response Association answer hundreds of calls for emergency assistance annually, and freely provide medical support to community events, including the annual B.B. King Homecoming Festival, as well as the two-day funeral services for Mr. King in 2015; and

     WHEREAS, volunteers of the Sunflower County Emergency Medical Response Association were instrumental in locating and recovering a majority of the fallen Marines and Navy Corpsmen lost in the crash of Marine flight YANKY-72 on July 10, 2017, and were subsequently individually recognized for their efforts with Certificates of Appreciation from the United States Marine Corps, and again with Distinguished Service Awards from the Marine Corps League — Department of Mississippi for excellence in their services to the Gold Star Families of YANKY-72 during the dedication of the YANKY-72 Memorial in July 2018; and

     WHEREAS, these volunteers continually strive to maintain and improve their skill and quality of service through specialized training, recurrent training, and cooperation with private emergency medical service agencies, various aero—medical providers, and other public service agencies in Sunflower County; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend fine institutions in Mississippi, especially those such as the Sunflower County Emergency Medical Response Association, an organization comprised of heroic volunteers whose outstanding service to their community, dauntless fortitude and unwavering duty to serve the ill, downtrodden, and those who cry out in pain in Sunflower County are truly appreciated:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF

REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE

CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and

congratulate the Sunflower County Emergency Medical

Response Association and its members, both past and present, upon the occasion of its twentieth anniversary and extend most sincere wishes for continued success and safety in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Sunflower County Emergency Medical Response Association and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
