Senate Concurrent Resolution 581

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE MUSIC EDUCATION SERVICE AND CIVIC CONTRIBUTIONS OF VETERAN PEARL RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE BAND DIRECTOR DR. KYLE HILL ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

WHEREAS, we join the Mississippi Music Education professionals in honoring the career of Dr. Kyle Hill who will retire from Pearl River Community College (PRCC) in June 2018, after 30 outstanding years of dedicated service in education with the past 26 years leading the programs at Pearl River Community College; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure at Pearl River Community College, the Music Program achieved the following:

· Pearl River Community College Marching Band participated in the Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2003 and 2008;

· Pearl River Community College Marching Band participated in the Inauguration of President Barack Obama in 2013, the only group from Mississippi invited to do so;

· In 17 years, Dr. Hill has awarded more than $5 Million in scholarships to band students from all across South Mississippi;

· Under his leadership, the Brownstone Center has become recognized as one of the premier performance venues in Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, all this was done while being very active in the community, particularly including his involvement at Temple Baptist Church, Lamar County Schools, and Northeast Lamar Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, his final band concert as Director of Band ends on April 10, 2018, at the Brownstone Center. During the concert, he will be recognized by the students and faculty for his many years of service and leadership; and it is with great pride that we pay tribute to a professional Music Educator who has been an outstanding mentor to his students, friend to his colleagues and a most public-spirited citizen of the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize the Music Education Service and Civic Contributions of Veteran Pearl River Community College Band Director Dr. Kyle Hill on the occasion of his retirement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Dr. Kyle Hill, forwarded to the Board of Trustees of Pearl River Community College, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
