Senate Concurrent Resolution 576

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING STONE COUNTY NATIVE AND CIVIC LEADER WYNN ALEXANDER UPON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE MISSISSIPPI TENNIS HALL OF FAME.

WHEREAS, Stone County Native and prominent Community Leader Wynn Alexander has been recognized for his many contributions to the sport of tennis.  Mr. Alexander is the 47th inductee into the Mississippi Tennis Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his life, Wynn Alexander has excelled as a player, coach and mentor to countless tennis players.  He has won three Mississippi State Titles in the United States Tennis Association and finished as Runner-up four times; and

WHEREAS, "It is just a huge honor," he said of his induction.  "It is not just based on your talent, thank goodness, but also on your efforts in promoting the sport of tennis"; and

WHEREAS, "Wynn has been a great supporter of the Stone High School Tennis Team," said Coach Freddie Wegner.  "He has spent countless hours working with the young adults, not only his own children and grandchildren, but all the students who have come up through the program."  In addition, he built what is the only privately funded public tennis facility in the state, the Wynn Tennis Center on Fifth Avenue in Wiggins; and

WHEREAS, tennis has been a family affair.  Alexander's daughter, Laura Owen, won two State High School Championships and his granddaughters, Christa and Beth Owen, have won three and four, respectively; and

WHEREAS, "This is a high honor.  What makes this all the more pleasing is the fact that only three people south of Jackson have been inducted into the Hall of Fame and I will be the fourth," Alexander said; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we join the citizens of Stone County in recognizing a civic leader whose athletic skills have brought honor to his family, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Stone County Native and Civic Leader Wynn Alexander upon his induction into the Mississippi Tennis Hall of Fame, and extend our best wishes to Wynn and his family for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Wynn Alexander, forwarded to the Mississippi Tennis Hall of Fame, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
