A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MR. TYRONE KEYS FOR HIS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS A FORMER NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE AND MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY LEGEND, MEMBER OF THE CHICAGO BEARS 1985 SUPER BOWL XX WINNING TEAM AND FOUNDER OF THE "ALL SPORTS COMMUNITY SERVICE" ORGANIZATION WHICH IS DEDICATED TO HELPING DISADVANTAGED YOUTH.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Tyrone Keys, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, and former NFL legend and member of the Chicago Bears 1985 Super Bowl XX winning team and Mississippi State University football standout, is the founder of the nonprofit organization "All Sports Community Service," which is dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth in Tampa, Florida; and

      WHEREAS, since its creation in 1993, the organization has sought to positively impact the lives of disadvantaged youth through mentoring and guidance in the areas of academic readiness, community service, high standards of moral character, and employment to develop personal opportunities; and

     WHEREAS, the great and empowering purpose of this organization was born from a tragic experience by a former mentee. The organization has now helped 1,000 students and has been critically important in creating the next generation of educators, youth, coaches and mentors.  Tyrone is from Jackson, Mississippi, where he was named a High School All-American and voted Defensive MVP of the Year in the State of Mississippi in 1977.  His high school team also won the State Championship in 1976.  Tyrone attended Mississippi State University and his determination to make a significant impact for this university catapulted him into making 26 career sacks (second highest in the school's history) and being selected All-Southeastern Conference (All SEC) three consecutive seasons, 1977-1980.  He helped to seal a 6-3 Mississippi State win over then number-one ranked Alabama.  Mississippi State's win achieved a 9-2 record for the year, the best season in the school's history.  In 1983, Keys returned to the National Football League (NFL) to launch a successful seven-year career.  He signed with the Chicago Bears as a defensive end where he remained through the 1985 Super Bowl XX Championship year (46-10 over the New England Patriots; and

     WHEREAS, Tyrone Keys' life work encourages Academics, Community Service, Sports and Significance, and it is with great pride that we honor this great athlete and civic leader whose lifework encourages academics, community service and sports to the youth in this country:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize Mr. Tyrone Keys for his many accomplishments as a former National Football League and Mississippi State University Legend and member of the Chicago Bears 1985 Super Bowl XX Winning Team and founder of the "All Sports Community Service" organization which is dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mr. Tyrone Keys, members of the "All Sports Community Service" organization, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
