A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION JOINING THE MISSISSIPPI TOURISM ASSOCIATION IN RECOGNIZING COUNTRY MUSIC STAR AND MISSISSIPPI NATIVE RANDY HOUSER AND PROCLAIMING DECEMBER 18, 2018, AS "RANDY HOUSER DAY IN MISSISSIPPI."

WHEREAS, Shawn Randolph "Randy" Houser was born in Lake, Mississippi. His father, a professional musician as well, performed at various local venues. Houser taught himself the guitar, and fronted his own band by age ten; and while attending East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi, he formed a band called 10Lb Biscuit; and

WHEREAS, by 2002, Houser had moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to begin a songwriting career. Houser signed to Universal South Records in 2008. In 2011, he released the song "In God's Time," which peaked at Number 54 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. He left Show Dog-Universal in 2011 and signed with Broken Bow Records' Stoney Creek division. In April 2015, Houser released a new single titled "We Went," which served as the lead single to his upcoming fourth studio album. It reached Number One on the Country Airplay in March 2016. The album, "Fired Up," was released on March 11, 2016. The album's second single, "Song Number 7," was released to country radio on March 28, 2016. It peaked at Number 43 on the Country Airplay chart. The album's third single, "Chasing Down a Good Time," was released to country radio on July 18, 2016. Houser began his supporting tour, dubbed the "We Went Tour," in November 2016, with shows continuing through the end of the year. Prior to his success as an Artist, Houser lived as a Songwriter, co-writing singles, including "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" by Trace Adkins, "Back That Thing Up" by Justin Moore, and "My Cowboy" by Country Pop Artist Jessie James; and

WHEREAS, a lifelong road warrior widely acclaimed for his powerful "cannon of a voice," Randy has logged thousands of miles and played to millions of fans during the past two years. His dynamic live show has grown from back-alley dive bars to stadiums. With an inimitable voice, the New York Times describes him as "wholly different, thicker and more throbbing, a caldron bubbling over." Mississippi Native Randy Houser has racked up five consecutive country radio hits and over five million singles sales after shifting record labels to Stoney Creek Records. He topped the charts with "How Country Feels," "Runnin' Outta Moonlight," "Goodnight Kiss" (his first No. 1 as a Songwriter), "We Went," and earned critical acclaim for his powerful delivery of the Top 5 hit and CMA Song of the Year nomination "Like A Cowboy." Randy has spent the majority of 2017 in the studio consumed by his much-anticipated new project due out in 2018, while also being tapped to perform at major country music festivals; and

WHEREAS, we join the country music industry in paying tribute to an iconic Mississippi talent who has served as the "Country Music Ambassador for the State of Mississippi":

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby join the Mississippi Tourism Association in recognizing Country Music Star and Mississippi Native Randy Houser, and extend to him and his family our best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That December 18, 2018, is proclaimed as "Randy Houser Day in Mississippi."

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Randy Houser, forwarded to the Mississippi Tourism Association, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
