A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TAYLORSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL "TARTARS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACH CHUCK ROBERTSON AS THEY CELEBRATE THE MHSAA CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Taylorsville High School "Tartars" Football Team finished off a 41-26 win over Winona to take the Class 2A State Title, and two Taylorsville players grabbed the Gatorade jug and crept up behind Coach Chuck Robertson to pour it on him with 41 seconds left; and
WHEREAS, the speedy, explosive Tartars broke big play after big play at the Championship Game. The 512-yard performance was too much for the Winona team that Robertson praised for how good of a game plan they put together to make things difficult in the first half; and
WHEREAS, Quarterback Ty Keyes threw all across the perimeter and deep downfield. Running back Tycarius Roberts made several defenders miss before Winona defenders could bring him down, finishing with 147 yards. Tartar Receivers like Perry Keyes, Malik Strickland and Raven Arlington were outstanding. This is Taylorsville's sixth State Championship, but it is Coach Robertson's first; and
WHEREAS, Tartar quarterback Ty Keyes may be the best freshman quarterback in the state. The 6-foot, 160-pound signal-caller was 14 years old when this season started and he threw for 4,226 yards and 42 touchdowns. As Taylorsville Coach Chuck Robertson pointed out, the quarterback had great targets. A trio of seniors, Perry Keyes (1,180 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns), Letreal Jones (884 and 10) and Malik Strickland (856 and 10), made their quarterback's transition to varsity football an easy one; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Taylorsville High School "Tartars" Football Team and Coach Chuck Robertson as they celebrate the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 2A State Championship, and we extend the best wishes of the Legislature to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Robertson for the team, forwarded to Taylorsville High School Principal Jeff Duvall and the Smith County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
