House Resolution 38

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE EXTRAORDINARY LIFE AND DEDICATED SERVICE OF MR. JERRY WAYNE ROBERTSON UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, it is written in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, on April 19, 2014, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Mr. Jerry Wayne Robertson, to eternal rest, rendering great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, as the eighth child born to Hassie Ethel Robertson on April 26, 1945, Mr. Robertson was raised by a single mother who instilled in him her Christian values and the importance of education; and

     WHEREAS, while on a full athletic scholarship at Millsaps College, Mr. Robertson was an All-Star, left-handed athlete in both basketball and baseball, where he excelled in speed, agility and team spirit, and after graduation he helped to mold and shape young lives as an educator, principal and coach at the high school and junior college levels; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Robertson obtained his law degree from Mississippi College School of Law, and he dedicated his life to public service by working for United States Senator Thad Cochran for a few years before beginning his career as an accomplished and trusted attorney for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Small Business Administration for over thirty years; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his work as an attorney, Mr. Robertson was tremendously devoted to his family, providing selflessly for his wife Linda, and his two children, Quinton and Alana; even after his passing, as a devout Christian who modeled a Christian lifestyle to all he encountered, Mr. Robertson instilled Christian values and beliefs in his children; and

     WHEREAS, a kind-hearted and easy going man who remained optimistic even in the face of adversity, Mr. Robertson was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease at the young age of 62 and suffered its effects until he lost his fight with the disease just one week shy of his 69th birthday; and

     WHEREAS, the legacy of Mr. Robertson's memory will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of his beloved survivors, including his wife Linda Robertson; children, Quinton Robertson and Alana Robertson; sister, Earline R. Sewell; and brother, J.D. Robertson; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend great Mississippians such as Mr. Jerry Wayne Robertson, whose steadfast commitment to his family and community has brought great honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the extraordinary life and dedicated service of Mr. Jerry Wayne Robertson, and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Jerry Wayne Robertson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
