House Resolution 32

(As Adopted by House)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CINEMATIC SUCCESS OF RUNNING WILD FILMS FOR THE WORK DONE IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, committed to developing local cinema around the United States with mass appeal to an international audience, Running Wild Films, the 2010 brainchild of Travis Mills and retired film professor and playwright Gus Edwards, which materialized in Arizona, has expanded its cinematographical footprint in Mississippi and Colorado; and

WHEREAS, aimed to relay great novelesque stories at a quick pace without breaking the bank or raiding the metaphorical coffers, Running Wild Films, to its credit, has produced over 100 short-film projects and more than 10 feature-length films, including Durant's Never Closes, Don't Come Around Here and Bride of Violence; and

WHEREAS, 2016 saw the completion of Running Wild Films' first feature film in the South, Porches and Private Eyes, a mystery/comedy set against the quaint backdrop of "A Home Seeker's Paradise" Brookhaven, Mississippi, which paved the road for the productions of three more Mississippi-based feature presentations over the course of two years, including Blood Country and Cornbread Cosa Nostra; and

WHEREAS, the latter two Mississippi productions provide a snapshot of a Mississippi not typically portrayed in mainstream cinema by exploring the state's rich and thought-provoking history; and

WHEREAS, poised to continue the development of new projects, Running Wild Films' goal remains constant . . . "to tell good stories in a fast and affordable way, to encourage film in local communities and to promote a sustainable independent film movement around the United States"; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the success of cinematic production companies like Running Wild Films, which has given the nation and world a new perspective on the limitless wealth of star talent and picturesque locales wrapped in Mississippi's hidden treasure of untapped writers, actors and producers:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the cinematic success of Running Wild Films for the work done in the State of Mississippi, and extend best wishes to co-founders Travis Mills and Gus Edwards for continued success in all their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Travis Mills and Gus Edwards on behalf of Running Wild Films and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
