House Resolution 18

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GERMANTOWN HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND AND DIRECTOR JUSTIN HARVISON FOR WINNING THE 2017 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 5A STATE MARCHING CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, on November 4, 2017, the Germantown High School Marching Band, through its latest command performance, Run for the Roses, won the 2017 MHSAA Class 5A State Marching Championship, truly becoming a force to be reckoned with throughout the State of Mississippi by winning their second state title since the inception of the Germantown High School Band Program in 2011; and

     WHEREAS, during the competition, the band rose to the challenge, giving if not the Greatest Show on Earth, at least the Greatest Show in Mississippi, earning first place in general effect music, general effect visual, music performance ensemble, music performance individual, visual performance individual and percussion; and

     WHEREAS, amazingly, the band recorded no penalties, and earned third place ratings in Color Guard and visual performance; and

     WHEREAS, the Germantown High School Marching Band is comprised of 136 students; Director, Justin Harvison; and  Assistant Directors, Allison Taylor, Josh Craft, Jim Peacock, Carrie Swindoll and Justin Craft, all of whom make beautiful music together; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend students who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Germantown High School Marching Band and its Director, Justin Harvison, for winning the 2017 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A State Marching Band Championship, and extend to the band members, directors, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Director Justin Harvison and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
