House Resolution 4

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING EMMA FUNK FOR BEING NAMED MAXPREP'S VOLLEYBALL SMALL SCHOOL PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Emma Funk, Our Lady Academy's volleyball standout and overall terrific athlete, was named Volleyball Small School Player of the Year by MaxPrep, a distinguished honor given to only the most elite athletes; and

WHEREAS, a three-time prep All-American, Emma's newest title is indicative of her supreme on-court skills, numerous accomplishments, winning personality and innate leadership skills as a player and a person that garners respect from both her teammates and classmates; and

WHEREAS, despite her individual accolades and awards, Emma is the ultimate team player, always putting her team and teammates before her individual goals and strides toward greatness; and

WHEREAS, Emma's true passion is Our Lady Academy's volleyball team, and she tirelessly works day in and day out to ensure that the team and the program performs at the highest levels of athletic excellence; and

WHEREAS, the Sun Herald's first three-time volleyball player of the year, Emma Funk's name is synonymous with volleyball royalty, as she led the Lady Crescents to their fourth straight state championship volleyball crown this year, and helped her team remain undefeated against their rivalries on the Coast; and

WHEREAS, Emma's senior year might have been her best one yet, as she had 630 kills, 311 digs, 324 service receives and 65 aces, but fortunately for volleyball fans everywhere, Emma's days on the court are not over, as she signed on to play collegiate volleyball with Trinity University, providing her adoring fans and spectators of the sport with the opportunity to continue witnessing her superb displays of domination on the court; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend outstanding young Mississippi athletes, especially those such as Emma Funk, who has exceeded all expectations of greatness and brought honor to Our Lady Academy, the City of Bay St. Louis and to this great Magnolia State:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Emma Funk for being named MaxPrep's Volleyball Small School Player of the Year and express best wishes for continued success in all of her future athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Emma Funk and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
