House Concurrent Resolution 66

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2017 TAYLORSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM, HEAD COACH MASON GRISSOM AND ASSISTANT COACH JOSEPH WHITE UPON WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 2A FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Taylorsville High School Lady Tartars Fast-pitch Softball Team clinched a well-deserved victory when they handedly defeated the Mantachie High School Lady Mustangs Fast-pitch Softball Team to win the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A Fast-pitch Softball State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, similar to the fierce, mighty warriors for which they are named, the Lady Tartars Softball Team utilized their powerful sword made of perseverance and dominance to pierce through the state championship dreams of the Mustangs during the championship game, finishing their season of play as the indomitable Tartars they truly are; and

     WHEREAS, striving to win with unparalleled motivation and ardent determination, the Lady Tartars, who had an impressive 23-7 record, played their best games of the season during the championship round, as their mental stamina and athletic prowess never wavered from the moment they first walked onto that red, dusty diamond until the final out was made and they were finally able to gleefully pose for a celebratory picture behind that championship banner with their well-deserved championship trophy proudly displayed; and

     WHEREAS, the 2017 Lady Tartars Fast-pitch Softball Team statistics were impressive, but the key to this team's consistent success has been the constant atmosphere and year-round hard work by the following talented and distinguished players:  Emilee Boykin, Alana Walker, Kylee Moore, Emma Rankin, Allie Eaton, Macy Ainsworth, Emma Kennedy, Maria Briones, Britney Jones, Latia Keyes, Chenai Keyes, Kolten Blakeney, Keelyn Rogers, Katelyn Horn, Mankiria Crosby, Sarah Stringer, Anna Kennedy, Ragan Bynum, Kelli Norris and Destiny Keyes; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Tartars have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Mason Grissom, who has broadened the team's knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution, and Assistant Coach Joseph White helped the players reach their fullest potential on and off the field and played a huge role in the success of the Taylorsville High School Fast-pitch Softball Team; and

     WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Lady Tartars have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches, bringing honor to Taylorsville High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi student-athletes, especially those such as the Taylorsville High School Fast-pitch Softball Team, whose excellence on the field and in the classroom bring honor to their school, their community and the State of Mississippi:  

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2017 Taylorsville High School Fast-pitch Softball Team, Head Coach Mason Grissom and Assistant Coach Joseph White upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A Fast-pitch Softball State Championship and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Mason Grissom and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
