A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND RECOGNIZING THE SERVICE OF PHYSICIAN ANESTHESIOLOGISTS WHO HAVE DEVELOPED TECHNIQUES AND PROTOCOLS THAT HAVE GREATLY IMPROVED THE SAFETY OF ANESTHESIA AND THE WELL-BEING OF SURGICAL PATIENTS EACH DAY AND TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE OBSERVANCE OF "NATIONAL PHYSICIAN ANESTHESIOLOGISTS WEEK" DURING THE WEEK OF JANUARY 28, 2018, THROUGH FEBRUARY 3, 2018.

     WHEREAS, "National Physician Anesthesiologists Week" is an annual celebration of patient safety and the many lives that physician anesthesiologists save when seconds count; and

     WHEREAS, more than 100 million operations and procedures are performed every year that necessitate anesthesia, and physician anesthesiologists play a critical role in all components of procedures, through preparation, the duration of the procedure and post-operation care, making patient safety their top priority; and

     WHEREAS, through major technological innovation, anesthesia is safer than ever before, but there is always potential for complications and side effects, and physician anesthesiologists are constantly perfecting residency training and have a continually evolving expertise to help minimize risks, monitor for any problems and take quick and decisive action when necessary; and

     WHEREAS, emergency situations and complications occur unexpectedly, but physician anesthesiologists can draw on their extensive medical education and years of clinical training and experience so that it is not merely bravery that allows them to make critical decisions that save lives, it is confidence in a system of preparation that is comparable to none; and 

     WHEREAS, although physician anesthesiologists require an incredible amount of education, their passion to serve patients above all else drives their academic achievements; and

     WHEREAS, physician anesthesiologists are committed to high quality care and safe patient service, remembering to always educate patients to provide even safer anesthesia, reduce risk of complications and recover from surgery, knowing that an educated patient will always be a healthier patient; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and acknowledge matters of significance such as physician-led anesthesia care so that Mississippians are protected and ensured high-quality, safe medical care:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby acknowledge that January 28, 2018, through February 3, 2018, for observance of National Physician Anesthesiologists Week and recognize the service of physician anesthesiologists who have developed the techniques and protocols that have greatly improved the safety of anesthesia and the well-being of surgical patients every day.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Mississippi Society of Anesthesiologists and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
