A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. TYRONE KEYS ON HIS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS A NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE LEGEND AND FORMER MEMBER OF THE CHICAGO BEARS 1985 SUPER BOWL XX WINNING TEAM AND CREATING THE "ALL SPORTS COMMUNITY SERVICE" ORGANIZATION WHICH IS DEDICATED TO HELPING DISADVANTAGED YOUTH.
WHEREAS, Mr. Tyrone Keys, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, and former NFL legend and member of the Chicago Bears 1985 Super Bowl XX winning team is the founder of the nonprofit organization "All Sports Community Service," which is dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth in Tampa, Florida; and
WHEREAS, since its creation in 1993, the organization has sought to positively impact the lives of disadvantaged youth through mentoring and guidance in the areas of academic readiness, community service, high standards of moral character, and employment to develop personal opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the great and empowering purpose of this organization was born from tragic experience by a former mentee who earned a scholarship to Texas Southern University, but was tragically shot and killed before receiving his scholarship; and
WHEREAS, the organization has now helped 1,000 students and has been critically important in creating the next generation of educators, youth coaches and mentors; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to honor great men, such as Mr. Keys, whose life work encourages academics, community service and sports to the youth in this country:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Mr. Tyrone Keys on his many accomplishments as a National Football League Legend and former member of the Chicago Bears 1985 Super Bowl XX Winning Team and creating the "All Sports Community Service" organization which is dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Tyrone Keys, members of the "All Sports Community Service" organization and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
