SUBSTITUTE NO 1 FOR AMENDMENT NO 1 PROPOSED TO

Senate Bill No. 2509

AMEND by inserting the subsection number "(1)" before the word "The" on lines 9 and 16, and inserting the following new subsection (2) after lines 15 and 22:

     "(2)  The exemptions from taxation provided for in this section shall not take effect unless the university prominently displays and flies either one (1) or both of the following flags each day of the year:

          (a)  The official state flag as described in Section 3-3-16, Mississippi Code of 1972;

          (b)  The historical Magnolia Flag that was the first official flag of the State of Mississippi from 1861 through 1865 and continued in use as a state flag until 1894, in any of its variations."

AMEND FURTHER the title by inserting the following after the semicolon on line 7:  "TO PROVIDE THAT THE TAX EXEMPTIONS PROVIDED FOR IN THIS ACT SHALL NOT TAKE EFFECT UNLESS THE UNIVERSITY PROMINENTLY DISPLAYS AND FLIES ONE OR BOTH OF CERTAIN FLAGS EACH DAY OF THE YEAR;"
