A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2016-2017 INGOMAR HIGH SCHOOL "FALCONS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH TRENT ADAIR FOR WINNING BACK-TO-BACK MHSAA 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
WHEREAS, eight weeks and 14-straight wins after losing team leader Mallory Russell to injuries, the Ingomar High School "Falcons" Girls Basketball Team stood on the court inside the Mississippi Coliseum on March 10, 2017, after winning its second-straight 2A State Championship with a 55-42 victory over Coahoma County; and
WHEREAS, the game was not without its dramatics. "Our goal was five or six at halftime, and it turned into one and we had the opportunity to tie it," Coach Trent Adair said. "We felt great going into the dressing room." Lauren Thompson had scored seven points in the 2A quarterfinals and semifinals and she said she was not doing enough. That changed in the championship game where Thompson took home MVP honors after dominating the post with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting with 12 rebounds; and
WHEREAS, Ingomar got the lead for the first time in the opening minutes of the third quarter, and slowly stretched it out from there in order to go back-to-back and begin the postgame chatter of whether or not the Falcons are a budding dynasty; and
WHEREAS, the 2016-2017 Ingomar "Lady Falcons" Girls Basketball Team Championship Roster is: Gara Beth Self, PG; Carson Grisham, G, F; Lauren Wooley; Carli Bridges, F; Lindsay Hall, G; Allie Williams, F, G; Ashley Forester, G; Maggie Smithey, G; Cheyenne Childers, F; Kailyn Freeman, F; Lauren Thompson, F, G; Mallory Russell, C, F; Patience Golden, P; Sanaa Finley, F, C; and Head Coach Trent Adair; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2016-2017 Ingomar High School "Falcons" Girls Basketball Team and Coach Trent Adair for winning back-to-back Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) 2A State Championships, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Trent Adair and Ingomar Principal Robin Denton, forwarded to the New Albany School Board and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
