Senate Concurrent Resolution 658

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING OLIVE BRANCH HIGH SCHOOL "LADY QUISTOR" STAR GIRLS BASKETBALL JUNIOR GUARD MYAH TAYLOR AS 2017 "GATORADE MISSISSIPPI PLAYER OF THE YEAR" FOR THE THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR.

WHEREAS, on March 13, 2017, Olive Branch High School "Lady Quistor" Star Girls Basketball Player Myah Taylor was announced as the 2017 Gatorade "Mississippi Player of the Year" recognizing the state's top girls' basketball talent.  It is the third straight year for the stellar Lady Quistor point guard to win the award; and

WHEREAS, it required years of two-a-day training sessions and five-plus-hour days in the gym to become a State Champ and Player of the Year in seven days' time.  "It was one of the accomplishments I set for myself at the beginning of the season," Taylor said.  "I had two goals.  The first one was to win State and the personal goal was to win another Gatorade Player of the Year."  It is safe to say Taylor's work ethic is paying off; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi State signee averaged 21.5 points per game, 7.5 assists and seven steals in her senior season with Olive Branch; and

WHEREAS, "This is a reward for the time she has spent on her craft," Coach Blake Jones said.  "She started off early being a phenomenal player.  She continues to work on her craft to provide her the rewards she has earned"; and

WHEREAS, Taylor is the first three-time winner of Mississippi's top individual award.  Three previous winners won the honor twice in their high school career, the last being Victoria Vivians, Taylor's future teammate at Mississippi State; and

WHEREAS, the legacy she is leaving behind at Olive Branch is one of true athletic superiority, but she will also graduate with a 4.1 GPA.  Taylor will join the nationally ranked Mississippi State Women's Basketball Program next season where she plans on continuing to build Mississippi's reputation as a basketball state; and

WHEREAS, Taylor is ranked as the number 49 recruit in the Class of 2017.  Myah Taylor is the epitome of a true point guard.  She is a leader who makes her teammates better, and she is an even better young lady with exceptional character; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend an exceptional student athlete who has brought honor to her school, her community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize Olive Branch High School "Lady Quistor" Star Girls Basketball Junior Guard Myah Taylor as Gatorade Mississippi Player of the Year for the third straight year and extend to Myah, her family, her coaches and teammates our best wishes for future success in her college career.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Myah Taylor, forwarded to Coach Blake Jones, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
