Senate Concurrent Resolution 618

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HOUSTON "HILLTOPPERS" BASEBALL TEAM AND COACH SCOTT GANN FOR WINNING THE 2016 CLASS 4A STATE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Houston "Hilltoppers" won the 2016 Class 4A State Baseball Championship on May 22, 2016, at Trustmark Park by defeating Newton County 14-3 in Game Three. The Hilltoppers finished the season with a record of 31-4; and

WHEREAS, Houston's Tanner Smith closed out the year with a perfect win-loss record. Catcher Luke Hancock committed to Mississippi State University; Tanner Smith, IF/P, went to Northeast Community College; Anekein Rish, P/OF, and Hayes McMullen, 1B, went to Blue Mountain College; and four seniors went to junior colleges; and

WHEREAS, the 2016 Houston "Hilltoppers" Baseball Team Roster is: Brylee Poteete, IF; Wes Parker, OF; Zack Callahan, C; Zack Poteete, OF; Hayes McMullen, 1B; Blaize Gann, IF; Jered Bean, OF; C.W. Spencer, IF; Justin Kimbrough, OF; Hunter Moore, 3B/P; Anekein Rish, P/OF; Colton Peel, IF/P; Luke Hancock, C; Denver McQuary, IF/P; Layton Burdine, 3B; Tanner Smith, IF/P; Kylan Carter, IF/P; Clay Hillhouse, IF/P; Colton Foster, OF/P; Jamie Brassfield, OF; and Jacob Cervantes, 3B/P; and Head Coach Scott Gann; Assistant Coaches Neal Hobson, Norwood Taylor and Kyle Wilson; and Managers Lamar McAllister and Jackson Crump; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Houston "Hilltoppers" Baseball Team and Coach Scott Gann for winning the 2016 Class 4A State Baseball Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Gann and Houston High School Principal Jason Cook, forwarded to the Houston School Board, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
