Senate Concurrent Resolution 604

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OXFORD HIGH SCHOOL "LADY CHARGERS" GIRLS SOCCER TEAM AND COACH HUNTER CRANE FOR COMPLETING AN UNBEATEN SEASON BY WINNING A REPEAT MHSAA CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ON THE SAME DAY THE OXFORD BOYS SOCCER TEAM WON THEIR STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Championship Soccer Game started off exactly how the Lady Chargers of Oxford wanted it to. Finishing off the perfect season in style, both the offense and defense proved why the trophy deserved to stay in Oxford for the second year in a row. The Lady Chargers repeated as 5A Champs with a 2-0 win over West Harrison on February 4, 2017, at Madison Central, capping an unbeaten season at 19-0. On this same historic day, the Oxford Boys Soccer Team won their Class 5A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, Oxford star forward Morgan O'Connor found the net only six minutes into the game. From that point on, Oxford would control the momentum throughout the rest of the half. The second half mirrored the first half of play with Oxford scoring an early goal. With a 2-0 lead, Oxford could comfortably cruise to the perfect undefeated season and back-to-back State Championships; and

WHEREAS, Oxford Coach Hunter Crane was excited to play in his second consecutive State Championship and believed his team's energy helped them get a comfortable win. "We came out with great energy and controlled the game for 80 minutes," he said. "We controlled possession the entire game, and when we got opportunities on goal, we finished them." With this State Championship, Oxford moves up to 6A; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Oxford High School "Lady Chargers" Girls Soccer Team and Coach Hunter Crane for completing an unbeaten season by winning a repeat MHSAA Class 5A State Championship on the same day the Oxford Boys Soccer Team won their State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Hunter Crane and Oxford Principal Bradley Roberson, forwarded to the Oxford School Board, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
