House Resolution 115

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. BARBARA TRAPP UPON BEING NAMED THE JUNIOR AUXILIARY'S "OUTSTANDING CITIZEN."

WHEREAS, her commitment to the classroom and her community earned Barbara Trapp the Junior Auxiliary's "Outstanding Citizen" crown, and the retired Corinth High School teacher was celebrated at a charity ball held on New Year's Eve; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Trapp received this award in recognition of her efforts in almost 40 years of teaching and with groups such as the Corinth Area Arts Council, Corinth Symphony Orchestra, Shakespeare Club, Little Garden Club, the Alcorn County Chapter of Retired Education Personnel, Girl Scouts and the Verandah-Curlee House; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Trapp has been encouraging students and changing lives throughout her entire teaching career, and she has always expected more of her students than other teachers, and her students always knew that she believed they could do whatever task they set their mind to, so she never took "no" as an answer from a student; and

WHEREAS, consumed with a fervent desire to mold the minds of the younger generation, after her retirement, Mrs. Trapp returned to the blackboard she loved so much as a substitute teacher, serving as an incredible mentor and support for classroom teachers; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Trapp possesses the heart of a teacher, a quality that separates the great educators from the average educators, and as a teacher that went above and beyond for her class, she loved her profession and her students, and the feeling was absolutely mutual; and

WHEREAS, since her retirement, Mrs. Trapp has been involved in many numerous activities that involve ACT and Cambridge tutoring, completing extended leave assignments for English teachers to enable students to continue receiving quality instruction, and served on the board of the Corinth School District Foundation; and

WHEREAS, through her work with events such as the Haunted Theater and Community Christmas Show, Mrs. Trapp uses the opportunity to expose young people to the theater, to discover their own talents, to work together for a common goal and to instill the virtue of "giving back" to the community, and anyone who works with her in that arena knows that they can count on her to do anything; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the classroom and the theater, Mrs. Trapp is also actively involved with the First United Methodist Church, where she plays a vital role in the chapel committee, the annual frozen food sale, the lead team for the Little Blessings Day Care Center and Vacation Bible School, and she volunteers wherever she is needed, including cooking and serving for the Lenten luncheons, cleaning, painting, helping with the renovation of the day care facility, and her consistent good humor makes working with her a pleasure and she is always ready to do her share and more on any project; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend fine Mississippians, especially those such as Mrs. Barbara Trapp, who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty to better their community, family and friends, bringing honor to this great Magnolia State:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Barbara Trapp upon being named the Junior Auxiliary's "Outstanding Citizen" and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Barbara Trapp and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
