House Resolution 110

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE IMPRESSIVE CAREER ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF DR. FANASY DEMING-JEFCOAT AND CONGRATULATING HER UPON BEING HONORED AS THE 2017 DENTAL ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Dr. Fanasy Deming-Jefcoat was honored with the distinguished title of 2017 Dental Alumnus of the Year; and

WHEREAS, upon hearing the news of this great honor, she was completely surprised, because this honor usually is bestowed upon someone much farther along in their career; and

WHEREAS, a native of southern Louisiana, she received her bachelor of science in biology at Mississippi College before attending dental school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), and went on to Baylor College of Dentistry to earn her masters and a certificate of periodontics; and

WHEREAS, her toughest challenge was starting her own dental practice in Madison, a challenge that Dr. Deming-Jefcoat embraced stating, "I feel very blessed to have established a practice and relationships with other dentists"; and

WHEREAS, her positive experiences at UMMC as a student motivated her to return as a volunteer teacher, and in 2007, she officially joined UMMC as part-time faculty; and

WHEREAS, at UMMC, she is adored by the students and faculty, as evidenced by Dr. David Felton, Dean of the School of Dentistry, who says, "She's a great asset to our clinical teaching efforts in her specialty area, and a terrific role model for all students, and in particular, for our female students"; and

WHEREAS, this business owner, professor and volunteer is also a wife and mother, who fulfills the needs of her family with fervor and love, as she maintains a positive work-life balance; and

WHEREAS, her passion for people and her sincere desire to relieve them from pain and other dental issues drives her on a daily basis; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to celebrate the accomplishments of young professionals who remain in this state to improve the lives of our citizens and the landscape of our healthcare:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the impressive career accomplishments of Dr. Fanasy Deming-Jefcoat and congratulate her upon being honored as the 2017 Dental Alumnus of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Fanasy Deming-Jefcoat, to the University of Mississippi Medical Center and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
