House Resolution 78

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE PUBLIC SERVICE CAREER OF MRS. BECKY PATTERSON ROGERS UPON HER RETIREMENT FROM HER POSITION AS AN ALDERWOMAN OF THE TOWN OF FRENCH CAMP.

     WHEREAS, after becoming an Alderwoman on the French Camp Board in 2009, Mrs. Becky Patterson Rogers retired from that position in December of 2016, concluding seven years of distinguished service to her constituents and all of the city's inhabitants; and

     WHEREAS, while serving French Camp as an Alderwoman, Mrs. Rogers also became Mayor Pro Tem, served as a member of the Mississippi Municipal League and was on the organization's State Board of Directors when she retired; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Rogers initially moved to French Camp in the summer of 1950 and attended school at French Camp for twelve years, graduating with the class of 1961; and

     WHEREAS, after graduating, Mrs. Rogers attended Montreal Anderson College in Montreal, North Carolina, and married her soulmate and best friend, the late Jim Rogers in 1962; and

     WHEREAS, after spending three years in California and six years in Tennessee while her husband was serving in the Marine Corps, Mrs. Rogers returned to French Camp in the summer of 1971; and

     WHEREAS, upon returning to French Camp, Mrs. Rogers decided to continue her education and enrolled at Mississippi State University where she received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education, master's degrees in elementary education and in school administration, and education specialist degrees in school administration and curriculum development; and

     WHEREAS, after receiving her degrees in education, Mrs. Rogers taught in grades three through eight at French Camp Elementary and grades seven and eight at Weir Attendance Center, additionally she worked as assistant to the Dean of Students at French Camp Academy and substituted in Choctaw School District; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Rogers returned to the classroom at French Camp Elementary in 1984 and worked her way up to principal in 1986, and she remained in that position until 1996, when she was prematurely forced to retire due to chronic health problems; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Rogers is the mother of Tim and Debbie Rogers Ivey and grandmother to Hannah, Lauren, John and Sam Ivey; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the public service careers of fine Mississippians, such as Mrs. Rogers, whose dedication to the Town of French Camp has helped improve the lives of its citizens:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Mrs. Becky Patterson Rogers upon the occasion of her retirement as an Alderwoman for the Town of French Camp, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of the resolution be furnished to Mrs. Becky Patterson Rogers and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
