House Resolution 76

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE EAST WEBSTER LADY WOLVERINES SLOW-PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM UPON WINNING THE 2016 MHSAA CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the East Webster Lady Wolverines Slow-pitch Softball Team capped off its season-ending 14-game winning streak with a 15-5, 15-8 sweep of Bay Springs to take home the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A State Championship for the second time in three seasons; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Wolverines playoff spot was in doubt after a couple of losses, but the team knew they had to win four division games in a row and after accomplishing that feat they never looked back and did not lose another game; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Wolverines knew they could not take Bay Springs for granted, and even though Bay Springs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opener, the Lady Wolverines took control with seven runs in the second inning and the rest is history; and

WHEREAS, although there were several standout individual performances over the course of the season, the championship win was a culmination of hard work and team effort, with every player knowing their role and executing it perfectly; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Wolverines have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Lee Berryhill, who has broadened their knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi's student-athletes, especially those such as the Lady Wolverines, whose excellence on and off the field brings honor to their school, their families and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the East Webster Lady Wolverines Slow-pitch Softball Team upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A State Championship and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Lee Berryhill on behalf of the team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
