A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING NYAH SUNDIATA ELISE TATE UPON HER NUMEROUS ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS A STUDENT AND BASKETBALL STAR AT TERRY HIGH SCHOOL AND EXPRESSING OUR MOST SINCERE WISHES FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ACADEMIC AND ATHLETIC ENDEAVORS.

     WHEREAS, Nyah Sundiata Elise Tate is a truly gifted person and an excellent student, both in the classroom and in her extracurricular activities, at Terry High School, ranking in the top 10 percent of students in her 2017 graduating class and finishing with a better than perfect 4.1 GPA; and

     WHEREAS, the daughter of Antonio and Tonya Tate, Nyah has been a member of the National Beta Club since 2013 and the National Honor Society since 2014, and she scored a whopping 25 on her ACT exam, a very difficult feat; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to her classroom accomplishments, Nyah's athletic accolades are nothing short of greatness, and when she shoots a three or makes a jump shot, her fans in the stands marvel at her athletic prowess and poise with the basketball; and

     WHEREAS, Nyah's basketball talent have garnered her state as well as national recognition and is evidenced by her three-time selection to The Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen and her selection to play in the 2016 North-South All-Star Game and the 2017 Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game; and

     WHEREAS, additionally, Nyah ranked 66th in the nation by the All-Star Girls Report, an elite and impressive honor and a true testament to her impeccable skill and sharp shooting, and she was also named a McDonald's All-American Nominee; and

     WHEREAS, after she graduates at the top of her class from Terry High School, Nyah, also a 2017 Lindy Callahan Athletic Scholar Award Nominee, will become a Mississippi State Bulldog and continue her basketball career as part of the Lady Bulldogs Basketball Team and her academic career with a major in kinesiology, and during her tenure at Mississippi State University, she will undoubtedly surpass all expectations and rise to meet all of the challenges that college can present, ultimately graduating with honors and a successful career in her future; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor fine Mississippi student athletes, especially those such as Nyah Sundiata Elise Tate, a young woman whose success in the classroom and from the paint has brought honor and glory to her family, her school, her community and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Nyah Sundiata Elise Tate upon her numerous accomplishments as a student and basketball star at Terry High School and express sincere wishes for continued success in all of her future academic and athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Nyah Sundiata Elise Tate and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
