A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DR. WILLIAM WEBBER ANDERSON UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER 62 YEARS PRACTICING DENTISTRY.
WHEREAS, after a 62-year career in the dentistry profession, Dr. William Webber Anderson retired on November 18, 2016, leaving a legacy of exceptional service to the Charleston, Mississippi, community; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson was born in Scott County on September 29, 1927, to the late E.S. and Kate Anderson of Ludlow, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Ludlow High School, where he was valedictorian of his class, Dr. Anderson served in the United States Navy for two years, after which he attended East Central Junior College and went on to Dental School at the University of Tennessee in Memphis where he received a doctor of dental surgery degree; and
WHEREAS, in 1954, Dr. Anderson moved to Charleston where he set up his longstanding practice and made a home for himself with his loving wife of 47 years, Peggy Venable Anderson, and their two sons and seven grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, throughout his career, Dr. Anderson was a part of many professional organizations, including the American Dental Association and the Mississippi Dental Association; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson is a past president of the Charleston Rotary Club District 6800, and he was recently selected as a Paul Harris Fellow, the highest honor given by the Rotary Club; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his dentistry career, Dr. Anderson also served his community as President of the East Tallahatchie School Board for 13 years, as a Deacon and Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Charleston and as a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Charleston; and
WHEREAS, further, Dr. Anderson has served other communities during his three mission trips to Haiti, West Cameroon, Africa, and Mexico; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the careers of fine Mississippians, such as Dr. Anderson, whose commitment to his profession and community brings great pride to his family, friends and the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the career of Dr. William Webber Anderson, congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement and extend best wishes for continued success in the lighter years of his retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. William Webber Anderson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
