A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING EMILY KRUSE, JULIA JIA, CHARLEY HUTCHISON, SANGEON (ALLEN) RYU, JOE HAN, DANIEL MARSH AND PETER MARTIN, FROM ST. ANDREW'S EPISCOPAL SCHOOL, FOR SCORING A PERFECT 36 ON THE ACT.

     WHEREAS, seven students from St. Andrew's Episcopal School scored a perfect 36 on the ACT, the leading U.S. college admissions test, which measures a student's academic readiness for college; and

     WHEREAS, these Magnificent Seven, whose accomplishments will serve as an inspiration for underclassman in the years to come, represent the best of Mississippi in academic achievement and leadership, are as follows: Emily Kruse, Julia Jia, Charley Hutchison, Sangeon (Allen) Ryu, Joe Han, Daniel Marsh and Peter Martin; and

     WHEREAS, Emily Kruse is a junior who loves math and community service and has a passion for music, further, she is a member of the Metro-Jackson Youth Leadership Program, actively engaged with Galloway United Methodist Church and is currently working on developing a much needed smartphone application that will enable drivers to avoid potholes, which highlights her entrepreneurial gift; and

     WHEREAS, Julia Jia is a junior who enjoys math and science, and is especially proud of the research she is doing with students in Texas on database energy efficiency, and when not pursuing her studies, she enjoys watching Chinese dramas and is the vice president of the junior class and a member of the varsity tennis team; and

     WHEREAS, Charley Hutchison is a junior who is especially interested in math and science and, along with a fellow student, completed a research project in physical chemistry last year that won fourth place in the world at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, further he is an Eagle Scout and a member of the cross country and quiz bowl teams; and

     WHEREAS, Sangeon (Allen) Ryu is a sophomore who is particularly interested in math and science and has competed in multiple math competitions in the past, and he is currently organizing a team to attend the American Regions Mathematics League at the University of Georgia this summer; and

     WHEREAS, Joe Han is a junior who especially enjoys biology, and although his five advanced placement courses keep him busy, he finds time to be an active member of the band, a top scorer for the varsity archery team and president of the school chess club, the latter of which, through competitive play, has afforded him the opportunity to represent Mississippi in national competitions as the state's defending junior champion; and

     WHEREAS, Daniel Marsh is a senior who attended school in South Africa and France before moving to Mississippi, and when not enjoying his math and science classes he plays soccer and football at St. Andrews and rugby in Jackson and Louisiana, and he is also a member of the National Honor Society and vice president of the Francophone Club; and

     WHEREAS, Peter Martin is a senior who will attend Vanderbilt University next fall, he is an Eagle Scout and a member of St. Richard's Catholic Church Youth Group, and when not furthering his studies, he is captain of the Saints cross country and track teams, and a starter on the varsity soccer team; and

     WHEREAS, these seven students who scored a 36 are not an anomaly for St. Andrew's Episcopal School, a college preparatory school founded in 1947 and grounded in the Christian faith and the Episcopal tradition, as for each of the last three years, over 50% of the graduating class has scored a 30 or higher; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize outstanding academic achievement by students and schools of our state, such as these Magnificent Seven, whose accomplishments bring great pride to their school, family and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Emily Kruse, Julia Jia, Charley Hutchison, Sangeon (Allen) Ryu, Joe Han, Daniel Marsh and Peter Martin for scoring a perfect 36 on the ACT, and extend best wishes for continued academic success by both these Magnificent Seven and St. Andrew's Episcopal School.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to St. Andrew's Head of Upper School Mrs. Julia Chadwick, each of the above named students and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
